A desuperheater captures waste heat during a heating or cooling operation and transfers it into the domestic hot water tank supply, providing free hot water in the summer, and hot water at a fraction of the cost in the winter. With a desuperheater it is important to understand that the unit only produces hot water when the unit is on and running in the heating or cooling mode. Many manufacturers call this technology "hot water assist" simply meaning you still have to have an alternate source for hot water generation for those times of the year when the hvac unit is not being called to run. For those interested in full- time year-round hot water heating we recommend considering the exclusive Hydro-Temp Patented Priority DHW generation system.
Next to heating and cooling, water heating is the most expensive utility cost you will have for your home. With this exclusive Hydro-Temp Technology you are able to enjoy full-time year-round hot water heating without the need of any other heating source. It is still necessary to have a traditional hot water storage tank but its function is simply to store all of the hot water the unit produces. In many instances home or building owners still choose to put in a traditional insulated electric hot water tank except with this technology installed they either never run electric service to the tank or they run electric service and simply turn the breaker off. It is important to understand that unlike a desuperheater that is capped at producing around 6,000 - 9,000 btu/h, Hydro-Temps patented priority system will reject 100% of a units capacity to heating water (i.e. 6 Ton Unit = 72,000 btu/h).
Building on the patented Priority DHW system we also offer this exclusive hot water heating technology in a variation for Infloor Hydronic Radiant Heating. With this option installed on your Hydro-Temp unit you can have full-time year-round hot water production specifically designed for Hydronic Radiant applications. Again with any of our priority systems installed, the unit is capable of rejecting 100% of its capacity directly into heating water. For those looking for multi functional capabilities, Hydro-Temp is also the only manufacturer in the world that has a true quad function unit capable of providing simultaneous Heating, Cooling, 100% Domestic Hot Water Heating, and 100% Hydronic Radiant Heating all in one package!
This type of system uses well water as the heat exchange fluid that circulates directly through the GHP system. Once it has circulated through the system, the water returns to the ground through the well, a recharge well, or surface discharge. This option is obviously practical only where there is an adequate supply of relatively clean water, and all local codes and regulations regarding groundwater discharge are met. In areas where water quality is either unknown or questionable it is always best to do a water chemistry test before deciding if an open loop system is the best option for you. Included in the Open Loop / Well Water Kit are pressure regulated water valves as well as a cupro-nickel heat exchanger.
There are a number of applications where purchasing an electric backup heat kit can make a lot of sense. Electric Backup Heat Kits are a low cost means of adding redundancy to your GHP System for the unlikely event that your unit would need service while in the heating season. In far northern climates there are some instances where heat kits are used as supplemental heat to accommodate extreme weather conditions. While Electric Backup Heat is a low cost means of adding heating capacity it is extremely important to understand that when the strip heat is in use on your geothermal heat pump that it will consume as much as four times the amount of energy that the GHP consumes to produce heat. Most homes simply use the electric heat as a backup and thus turn the breaker off to the isolated strip heat circuit in normal operating conditions.
This simple and elegant communicating color touch-screen thermostat is a great addition to any new Hydro-Temp VStar unit and offers a new level of comfort control that had previously been unattainable. Calling this device a thermostat does not do it justice. Here at Hydro-Temp we have always been on the cutting edge of innovation in the geothermal industry and this is yet another sign of our dedication to providing the most energy efficient products and solutions available anywhere. This new development marries our Variable Speed Compressor technology with User Control that until now simply was not available. Standard on all new VStar orders.
The ZS line of intelligent zone sensors provides the function and flexibility you need to manage the conditions important to the comfort and productivity of the zone occupants. The ZS sensors are available in a variety of zone sensing combinations to address your application needs. These combinations include temperature, relative humidity, and indoor air quality (carbon dioxide or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)). Designed to work with all units containing the ProtoStar system or any commercial units equipped with Direct Digital Controls (Building Automation System). For Residential applications these sensors are designed to control zones two, three, and four on any VStar applications that take advantage of the standard built-in zoning system.
UV-C lamps are a simple, cost-effective, and highly reliable technology that keeps HVAC systems running at 'as-built' conditions. UV-C disassociates elemental bonds in organic matter, degrading them similarly to how UV light from the sun degrades vinyl and rubber, etc. UV-C eliminates biofilms, mold and fungi, and other organic contaminants on coils, drain pans, and plenum interiors. In new systems, such buildups won't form because of the continuous UV-C irradiation. In retrofit applications, UV-C degrades the organic matter that has accumulated over time, and then prevents it from returning. It also penetrates all the way through coils to eliminate internal build-up. The UV-C Air Sanitizer Kit includes all internal electrical and mounting brackets as well as one 18-month rated bulb. Additional Bulbs available upon request.
Hydro-Temp Corporation manufactures electrostatic air filters in any size that actually purify the air you breath as the filter attracts and holds millions of airborne pollutants, such as dust, pollen, mold spores, animal dander, smoke, and household chemicals. The filters' electrostatically charged fibers are activated by the air passing through them and an added layer of charcoal (optional) between the polypropylene fibers is especially effective in removing stubborn odors. Maintenance for the filter is simple--just snap it out, rinse it off and snap it back in, this periodic cleaning will help to remove any buildup that accumulates on the filter. Gone are the days of constantly having to scour stores looking for the proper filter size, buy this filter once and just periodically rinse it off. The electrostatic air filter easily fits into the original filter space of an existing unit, requiring no additional ductwork or wiring. The filters may be purchased individually or with a new unit. Replaceable Pleated Filters available on request.
This is for installations where a non-pressurized ground loop is being utilized. Only one AutoPurge Kit is necessary on applications with more than one unit on a single ground loop, it is important to understand the additional units on a system that utilizes the AutoPurge will need to be equipped with an individual pump and check valves. The reservoir tank compensates for any changes in volume of the ground loop due to seasonal changes. Its setup makes it simple and easy to add fluid to a ground loop if needed. The perfect choice for virtually any closed loop geothermal installation.
Pump and Flange sets are available in multiple sizes. When using the AutoPurge Kit note that the kit includes one loop pump already assembled to the flow center, for installations where more than one system is utilized in conjunction with an AutoPurge non-pressurized flow center you would need to purchase a pump and flange set for each additional units. All installations with multiple units on a common ground loop also need to be equipped with check valves which are available upon request when ordering any Hydro-Temp system.
